Scholarship Overview

The Sherri Eisenpress Scholarship for LGBTQ+ Students is a $1,000 essay-based award created to support undergraduate students who demonstrate leadership, resilience, and a commitment to advancing equality within the LGBTQ+ community. Established in honor of Sherri Eisenpress, the scholarship reflects a legacy grounded in justice, youth advocacy, and LGBTQ+ institutional leadership throughout New York. This annual award is designed to recognize students who are using their education, voice, and lived experience to create meaningful and lasting change. The selected recipient will receive $1,000 to assist with tuition, books, or other educational expenses.

Criteria

To be eligible for the Sherri Eisenpress Scholarship for LGBTQ+ Students, applicants must meet the following requirements:

  • Must be currently enrolled as an undergraduate student at an accredited college or university
  • Must identify as a member of the LGBTQ+ community or demonstrate meaningful advocacy and leadership in support of LGBTQ+ equality
  • Must submit an original essay (see prompt below)
  • Must provide proof of current undergraduate enrollment

Essay Prompt

In 750–1,000 words, respond to the following:

How can education, leadership, and community engagement advance equity and long-term institutional growth for LGBTQ+ individuals, and how do you envision contributing to that future?

Essays should reflect thoughtful analysis, personal insight, and a forward-looking perspective on equality, justice, and inclusive leadership.

All submissions must be original work created by the applicant.
